Joy, 2015

joyThis is another comic and biographical drama film that is both directed and written by one person, director David O. Russell. The leads stars are Jennifer Lawrence being Joy Mangano, is the self-made millionaire whom made her personal business empire, though she is a separated mother having three children. In 1990, when she created the Miracle Mop and turned out to be an overnight success, then she patented many more products, usually being sold at QVC and the Home Shopping Network. The movie is an inspirational portrayal and semi-fictional of how Mangano conquer personal and professional obstacles to rise to the top.

In 1989, Joy is working at Eastern Airlines as a booking clerk. She is a divorced mother, having two kids and lives with her Terri, her mother; Mimi, her grandmother; and Tony, her ex-husband, in New York. Her parents were separated, and her father and mother end up fighting whenever her father came up in their house. Peggy, Joy’s older half-sibling, is a high achiever who regularly humiliates Joy while in front of her kids. Joy and Peggy’s father Rudy were very close. Terri used all day stretching in bed viewing soap operas as means of breaks from her life, parting Joy to manage the household. Only her grandmother and Jackie her best friend, encouraged them to pursue her devise ambitions and turn out to be a strong victorious woman.

The negative feedback and reviews of the film makes a surprised to me because I really enjoyed the movie that much. There is no turning down that the majestic appeal of the film was Jennifer Lawrence’s gripping performance. The film’s tale itself does not like it has too much to offer. An overworked, needy woman sells plastic mop and it does not sound so thrilling on paper. But, Lawrence takes up an intensity of a powerful tale of a woman not giving up and creating her own chances that happen towards all odds. She brings you on an exciting journey from beginning to end. Lawrence has the indisputable capability of making you ache together with her efforts. No moviegoers would want to be told of that being strong and hard worker will not be enough to do well in this world, and, “Joy” exactly just did that.

“Joy” still left me inspired. Being an aspiration-filled, young, lady myself, Lawrence’s presentation of Joy makes me like I can take the whole world and Lawrence and David take you on to an emotional trip with “Joy.” It seems not be the inspiring film you want, but I still this movie is a must watch. See it for yourself to prove it.
