Don Jon (2013)

Standard

don-jon10Jon Martello played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a good looking, muscular, old fashioned man. His friends often call him Don Jon because of his capacity to drag to bed a lot of women every week. But even having that great magnet to ladies, the satisfaction and ecstasy he is feeling every time he is just by himself in front of his computer watching pornographic movies seems to hold his best interest. (Scarlett Johansson) Barbara Sugarman is a pretty, witty, old fashioned lady. Based on Hollywood passionate film, she has the strong mind to find the love of her life and ride on to travel life’s journey. Struggling with the good old fashioned prospecting for the opposite gender, Barbara and Jon fight against the common notion in trying to search and find the real relationship of their life. This surprising comedy film is directed and written by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Acting and directorial versatility of Joseph Gordon Levitt

Joseph Gordon Levitt demonstrated that he can both direct and act at equal time. Taking Tony Danza back in the film was a wise decision also (into a more diverse father role that everybody knows him from). The film is all concerning Joseph Gordon-Levitt acting. In front and at the back of the camera, deciding when to slash the movie together that others might name it as pornography (though, it is not, because it is a movie regarding addiction.) Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes a guarantee that his first appearance as a director-writer in Don Jon will be an educational analysis of the hope placed on the dealings in the settings soaked with media distortion of both men and women. It is a movie allegedly regarding pornography, but that is only the scrapes Gordon place in his assessment of contemporary affairs. The clasp that disapproves the cutting remarks on how we object instead of connecting with the opposite gender.

The point of the movie

Sex obsession is a thing that public is not taking seriously and just making fun of it most of the time. But you can make it a lot more serious than it has to be and Don Jon confirmed it in a humorous way. While Michael Fassbender rolled with it and acted it in drama, the movie seems to be a bit lighter in nature the whole time. It has still some dramatic scene in it, but the touch of funny moments makes it a lovely movie to view. If you are not so aware of the theme of sex it is showing, then you will gain influential movies about the effects of addiction.

Don Jon reveals a clever sense of cutting both sound and picture by Gordon-Levitt and the editor, Lauren Zuckerman, accentuate Don’s habit without allowing it to be boring. The auditory tricks and visual effects are not gimmicks. Instead, they are master tools plays a vital part in the story.

Ghost Team One Review 2013

Standard

Ghost Team One is directed by Ben Peyser and Scott Rutherford and written by Andrew Knauer and Arthur Pielli. It is a horror comedy movie that focuses on roommates Brad played by J.R. Villarreal and Sergio played by Carlos Santos who after throwing a wild house party, stimulate the lecherous spirits living in their house.

The girl here is Fernanda played by Fernanda Romero, a sexy and beautiful girl which the two men want to impress. In order to impress Fernanda, these two roommates begin to make a documentary about a murder that happened in their home decades ago. The girl thinks that the ghost is still living in the house, so the two men decided to make a movie with her in order to get close. But after setting up the cameras in the entire house, they begin to experience hilarious and funny things that seem supernatural. They perform various ways in order for this ghost to go out.

Honestly, I don’t like this sort of film, but since I have started watching it, I decided to finish it until the end. The casts are throwing funny dialogues, some are funny, but some are not. The plot is plain and the cinematography is average. There are several unfunny materials in this film such as the onslaught of hokey masturbation jokes and a repeated Asian mockery from Sergio and Chuck played by Tony Cavalero that turns out from bad to even worse.

However, the film shows the friendship between Brad and Sergio and with their close bond initiates comedy. The two men here have perfect chemistry. The interaction between them is believable. In fairness, the reactions of the casts to paranormal encounters are colossally authentic. It is just a simple gag and it lacks of fear and horror. The paranormal encounters didn’t scare the characters in an intense way. Since, this is a horror comedy, it is just okay. I think there is a problem in the plot which gradually degenerates into nothing but a long thread of youth and unappealing jokes.  When talking for the horror aspect, it didn’t make me scared at all. It couldn’t jump to scare and it is not made to frighten the viewers.

In general, Ghost Team One has talented and committed stars and it has a unique footage horror comedy by showing the lighter side of the supernatural. However, the sense of humor is mixed up from funny to off-putting.

Movie 43 Review 2013

Standard

Movie 43 was an anthology of 12 short films starring twenty-five well known celebrities. This was a comedy film, but you will not actually get the part of laughs in the ninety-seven minute runtime. One thing there were many casts here that you could not focus on each character. This was directed by several directors and written by several writers so I thought they made a good film. The actors and actresses that can be seen in this film are Greg Kinnear, Dennis Quaid, Charlie Saxton, Common, Odessa Rae, Anna Madigan, Seth MacFarlane, Mike Meldman, Rocky Russo, Kate Winslet, Julie Claire, Katie Finneran, Roy Jenkins, Hugh Jackman, and Will Sasso.

This movie proclaimed a comedic riot, but unfortunately it didn’t reach the viewers. Well, this film had great actors and actresses, but it didn’t make the film interesting. There were several events happening in this film which they seem funny, but for the viewers, they were not like when Kate Winslet was having a date with Hugh Jackman and accidentally the pubic hair gets into his soup he eats and he puts it on a baby’s forehead. It looked like a surreal nightmare. For me, this part was not really funny at all. Another one was a woman played by Anna Farris who asked her husband played by Chris Pratt to ca-ca on her when the woman wanted a sex. The man here eating a lot of Mexican food and drinking a bottle of poop Viagra. So, as a result he had problem in stopping his bowels as his wife wants foreplay. He made his wife mad and she went into the street and he followed her, accidently he was hit by a car and defecated all over the street. Then, the wife said it was the most fascinating scene she had seen. This scene was not actually putting sense for me. There were still a lot of improper scenes that can be found in this film which I think lead the film in getting a low rating.

Even though there were many unfunny scenes in this film, but there were some scenes that still made me laugh while watching the entire movie. Some of these were Emma Stones having a great performance in a segment where she made a dirty talking at a supermarket, a 7th grade young lady played by Chloe-Grace Mortez having her menstruation and her idiotic male pal freaking out and the last one was Terrence Howard spoofing motivational sporting film like Remember the Titans.

Now, I have just reviewed the unfunny scenes and funny scenes of the entire film so it will up to you if you go and see these collections of short films.
